Videointerview: James van den Berg MVP SCCDM Office 365 for Education
In this case I must wrote the Blogpost in English, so that my dear friend James van den Berg, MVP for System Center Cloud and DataCenter Management, can share it with his network. But I think my usual German readers of our Blog will manage this challenge as it is a very interesting story James want to share with us. Last year on the Summit he told me, that they will deploy Office 365 on their college and they will be the first European education customer on Office 365. Indeed they were the first one and it was interesting to talk with him about his experience.
I will pick up only a few points I liked most. The first is that they change the philosophy in the IT about the responsibility for the data and the use of the service. I mean not in the sense of the Interpretation for Data Security and Data Protection, but in the responsibility what you do and what you want to migrate. I am a fan of a clean mailbox and I only archive what is needed. My mailbox is normally empty, when I start my working day and I have intervals in the Day to clean it up. But I know a lot of people (especially one) who never clean up the old stuff. In a migration of 50.000 mailboxes this can be a real challenge and pain for the IT administrator. So I liked how James has solved this challenge.
The second thing I really love is how they really make the connection between their online environment and there on-premise environment. Just think about it on the perspective of an IT-Administrator, how easy it is to hold your Infrastructure clean without having trouble about the right licensing. Especially with this mass of students. But listen for yourself.
